Organizational Development Case Study

November 7, 2018
UOP Sacramento Campus, Grand Salon Room
3200 Fifth Avenue - Sacramento

Are you looking for ways to step up your Organizational Development (OD) Skills? Look no further! We are holding a special OD session using a case study, perfectly timed - just one day after our state elections. There is no better time to talk about change and its resulting impact across a large organization. You will have an opportunity to work through a case study, with an added bonus of attending an optional OD Basics Mini-Workshop just prior the case study. There is no better way to rapidly gain new skills, ways of thinking, and opportunities to learn from your peers in the talent development community!

Pre OD Basic Mini-Workshop: 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM
$15 (Members) / $20 Non-Members

Objectives:

  • Become familiar with basic OD and Change Management models.
  • Explore how these models can be used to improve organizational effectiveness and/or assist with organizational change.
  • Recognize how a consultative approach can increase success.

ATD/OD SIG: OD Case Study Workshop: 5:30 PM - 8:00 PM
$25 (Members) / $35 (Non-Members)
Includes Dinner
Objectives:

  • Apply basic OD and Change Management strategies to a plausible case study
  • Grapple with the complexities of large-scale and complex change
  • Identify “first steps” and “open questions” you might have in your initial work with this client
  • Determine how you might apply what you’ve learned to other industries outside of government

The case study involves a California State Department that is anticipating administrative and leadership changes pursuant to the recent statewide elections, held November 6th.  With new leadership appointments freshly elected, the department anticipates changes to program goals and initiatives that will impact the allocation of resources; while also addressing the ongoing workforce challenges (succession planning, recruitment, hiring, training).

You will work in groups and will act as a “consulting team”. After a preliminary discovery meeting with the current Chief of Administration for the Department (with responsibility for human resources, budgets, strategic planning, IT and facilities), your consulting team will prepare for a new department and leadership. Your team has been compiling a transition plan that shows how you would advance the agency forward from its current operating state to one that achieves the governor’s goals.
